Tracy Edwards captained the first all-female crew to take part in the Whitbread Round-the-World Yacht Race. They finished first in their class, second overall, and captured the nation’s hearts. She won the 1990 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award. In 1998 Tracy and her crew were on course to break the speed record for circumnavigating the globe under sail when their mast snapped in the Southern Ocean, 2000 miles west of Chile. Tracy is one of the most sought after motivational speakers in the UK and her TV work includes presenting The Science of Sailing on the National Geographic Channel. She has published two bestselling memoirs: Maiden and Living Every Second.
