Katharine has taught English and Drama in comprehensive schools and creative writing at the University of Hertfordshire. She has served as a Royal Literary Fund Fellow, supporting students in their writing, and then as a mentor to other writers in a variety of universities. She contributed to the Royal Literary Fund’s publication Writing Matters and has had lyrics performed in the National Theatre Studio. Her novels include the bestselling Rose of Sebastopol, a selection of the Richard & Judy Book Club, The Alchemist’s Daughter and The Crimson Rooms. Katharine's latest novel The Woman in the Picture revisits the life of The Crimson Room's protagonist Evelyn Gifford.
