Jan Page is a screenwriter, novelist and playwright, currently writing psychological thrillers under the name of Jess Ryder. Titles to date include Lie to Me, The Good Sister, The Ex Wife and The Dream House, all published by Bookouture. She has written four children’s books in the Corgi Pups series for Random House Children’s Books, two teen novels - Juggling Lessons (RHCB), and Drummer (Walker Books - and historical YA novel Selina Penaluna (RHCB).
As a scriptwriter Jan cut her teeth in children’s television, writing literally hundreds of episodes for shows too numerous to mention, but including Thomas The Tank Engine, Fireman Sam, Postman Pat, Angelina Ballerina, Playdays, The Tweenies, and the remake of The Magic Roundabout.
In 2005 she co-founded children’s media specialist independent production company, Adastra Creative with writer/producer Mellie Buse. Together they created, wrote and produced the hit BBC CBeebies television series Grandpa in my Pocket, which won the 2010 BAFTA CYMRU for Best Children’s Programme, was three-times nominated for a UK Children’s BAFTA and sold to over a hundred international territories. Jan co-wrote Teamwork – a musical stage show based on the Grandpa television series, which was commissioned by Nottingham Playhouse and toured nationally. As part of Adastra Creative, Jan co-created and produced Ha Ha Hairies for Cartoon Network’s Cartoonito channel, which was twice nominated for a UK Children’s BAFTA.
Jan has also written adult TV drama including the BBC medical series, Doctors and Channel 5’s Family Affairs.
She has had thirteen professionally produced plays, including music theatre adaptations of Beauty And The Beast and Aladdin for the New Victoria Theatre in Stoke on Trent.
Jan and her alter-ego Jess, live happily together in north-west London with Jan’s husband.
